Look what I’ve got! Can’t replace Berkeley, but he can help ease the pain (Taken with instagram)
My mother tells me to adopt a new kitten in order to deal with the death of my 3 year old cat Berkeley as of yesterday. We planned to go to the animal shelter to look when I got of work today. We did and spent an hour with all the different cats. We fall in love with one, pick him out for adoption, even discuss names. We take him to the front counter to adopt him at 6pm, but they said they stop adoptions at 5:30 because they close at 6 and to come back tomorrow morning at 8am. My mom and I take home the paperwork and fill it out as soon as we get home.
We arrive to find my dad in a horrible mood, yelling about adopting a new cat that he doesn’t want to take care of, and freaking out over how much it costs to have an animal in my apartment. Then my mom says I can’t adopt the kitten and I of course argue, but she says that’s that.
No longer knowing how to deal with the death of a cat I raised as my child- it also being my first real pet loss, mind you- I begin to bawl my eyes out for the next four hours. My dad storms out of the house to God knows where for the night, and my mother stays downstairs and ignores me until she “falls asleep on the couch.” They both left me for the night without so much as a goodbye or goodnight.
Thank you guys for showing me so much support and guidance in my greatest time of need. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it.
